Key Responsibilities:
Safety Compliance:
- Monitor and enforce adherence to national and local mining safety regulations.
- Ensure that the mining operation complies with company policies and regulatory safety standards.
- Regularly inspect mining operations, facilities, and equipment to identify and address potential hazards.
Incident Reporting & Investigation:
- Report, investigate, and document all incidents, accidents, and near-miss events.
- Coordinate with the team to identify the root cause of incidents and recommend corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Prepare and submit safety reports to management and regulatory bodies.
Training & Education:
- Provide safety training for new employees and conduct regular refresher courses for existing staff.
- Educate workers on the safe use of machinery, handling of hazardous materials, and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols.
- Organize emergency response drills (e.g., fire drills, evacuation procedures).
Risk Assessment & Mitigation:
- Conduct risk assessments for mining operations, identifying high-risk activities and implementing control measures.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce the likelihood of accidents or injuries in the workplace.
- Work with supervisors to ensure that safety risks are addressed before tasks begin.
Emergency Response Coordination:
- Act as the first responder during mining emergencies and coordinate evacuation or medical response when needed.
- Maintain the availability of first-aid kits, emergency medical equipment, and communication tools in case of accidents.
Safety Audits:
- Lead regular audits and safety assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of safety protocols and improve procedures.
- Coordinate with external safety auditors to review compliance and improve standards.
Safety Culture Promotion:
- Foster a proactive safety culture by encouraging workers to report hazards or unsafe behaviors.
- Organize campaigns and safety events to promote awareness of best practices and safety culture on-site.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- Certification in Mine Safety (e.g., Mine Safety and Health Administration [MSHA] certification) is preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in safety management, ideally in mining or heavy industry.
- Strong understanding of mining regulations and health and safety standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with workers at all levels of the organization.
